San Marcos, CA – The San Diego North Economic Development Council was honored with the prestigious Award of Merit at the California Association for Local Economic Development 2007 Annual Conference. The award was presented to recognize the San Diego North Economic Development Council’s project, San Diego North Economic Outlook, for its significant contribution to the field of economic development. To celebrate the award, the San Diego North Economic Development Council will host a get-together at its office on June 12, 2007 from 3 to 6 pm.

“It is a tremendous honor to receive this award,” said Gary Knight, President and CEO of the San Diego North Economic Development Council. “The San Diego North region has many thriving business clusters, and the goal of this project was to show the diversity of our local business community. We thought that the project was very successful and we are excited that it was recognized by the California Association for Local Economic Development.”

In 2006, the San Diego North Economic Development Council launched the San Diego North Economic Outlook, a multi-phased project designed to increase awareness of the major business clusters in the region in order to attract new investment opportunities and increase jobs within the clusters. The first phase of the project was the release of a magazine-type publication that provided an overview of the 12 dominant clusters in the region written by local business, education, and civic leaders. In the second phase of the project, the SDNEDC held monthly news conferences that brought the media together with the business leaders of the highlighted cluster for that month. The third phase of the project was an awards program to recognize the companies that best exemplified their respective cluster.
